DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT SURVEY FINDINGS: 25TH September 2013- OUR GODFATHER LEADS IN VIOLATING LAW




The employment survey was conducted in the following sectors;
  1. Private sector   Tanzania Union of Industrial and Commercial Workers (TUICO) member companies in 5 regions
  2. Education sector – Teachers in 6 regions through Tanzania Teachers Union (TTU)
  3. Health/social welfare sector Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) in 1 region

The policy brief on the Employment of People with disabilities in the Health sector presents the findings of the survey report conducted in one region of Dar es salam for the 20 departments and institutions falling under the Ministry of Health and social welfare. The study establishes that there were few employees with disabilities, just only 17 employees (2.3%) out of the total number of 738 employees in the 20 survey institutions, had different types of disabilities.
KEY FINDINGS
a) Proportion of employees with a disability small
        TUICO:           86 out of 20,568 (0.4%)
        TTU:    519 out of 24,552 (2.1%)
        MoHSW:        17 out of 738 (2.3%)
b) Majority of employees with disabilities in non
managerial tasks
        TUICO:           4 in managerial positions out of 86 PWDs
        TTU:    19 head teachers out of 519
        MoHSW:        0 heads of departments/institutions


More men with disabilities are employed than women with disabilities
